ancient bridge ~ Mill Creek Park, Ohio ~ road trip to Ohio
Scenes of Mill Creek Park, founded 1891 in Youngstown, Ohio, appear every so often in my dad's home movies. When I was much younger, we routinely met for summer family reunions there, and so I have many fond memories of playing with my cousins, with fairly reckless abandon, at verdant Mill Creek. This is one of the oldest bridges in the park. Although my paternal grandpa and grandma and my dad's three brothers were all born in Pennsylvania ~ Potter, Indiana and Bradford/McKean counties ~ my dad, the youngest of the brothers, was born in Youngstown. “For me the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously. In order to ‘give a meaning’ to the world, one has to feel oneself involved in what one frames through the viewfinder. This attitude requires concentration, a discipline of mind, sensitivity, and a sense of geometry – it is by great economy of means that one arrives at simplicity of expression.” ~ Henri Cartier-Bresson

Morning Has Broken
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass;
Praise for the sweetness,
Of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness
Where His feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light
Eden saw play;
Praise with elation,
Praise every morning,
God’s re-creation
Of the new day."
